What does “Cutting out Sugar” even mean?

Sugar is a controversial topic!

Recently all we’ve been hearing is that sugar is bad and to “cut it out” but what does that even mean?

“Sugars” are usually glucose, fructose, sucrose that are simple carbohydrates or broken down from complex carbohydrates.

Simple carbs are usually processed like white bread, pasta, candy, chocolate, juice, soda and cereals.

Complex carbs include whole grains, sweet potato, yams, cassava, corn, oats, rice.

Carbs are ready sources of energy for our bodies, however with today’s diet we get an abundance of it and we should be aiming for more complex carbs than simple carbs.

Cutting out sugar usually means cutting out simple +/- complex carbs from your diet and consuming low carb vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli 🥦, sweet pepper,  mushrooms 🍄, zucchini etc. Beans and legumes also have some carbohydrate content.

Don’t forget that high fructose corn syrup is hidden in almost every processed food like condiments like mayo, ketchup and BBQ sauce, salad dressings sweetened yogurt, sodas, frozen junk food, canned fruit and juices.

So always remember to check the sugar content of items that don’t even seem sweet!
