Benefits of Soursop (aka Custard Apple, Graviola or Annona muricata)
Soursop Punch is a nice treat on a warm sunny day!
Soursop has many different names from Custard Apple, Graviola or Annona muricata. It is native to tropical and subtropical parts of the world.
In Trinidad, we enjoy the fruit blended with milk, sugar and nutmeg like Barbadine or Seamoss.
Known worldwide for its high antioxidant status, it’s been shown to be effective against cancer cells.
The seeds have been known to fight parasitic and fungal infections and the fruits have been used to treat arthritis and fever.
The leaves have been used traditionally to fight against collapses, low blood sugar, inflammation and as a relief for muscle spasms. Extracts are also used to lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol.
Traditionally it has also been used in the treatment of cancer and research has shown that it is effective against cancer cells.
However, it is not advised to use Soursop as a cancer treatment as there are NO human clinical trials that have been done to show that it is an effective chemotherapy.
One can continue to consume it to get its great boost of antioxidants, which are well known to combat oxidative stress and prevent onset of many lifestyle diseases and effects of gaining, along with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle!
